WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — Myles Garrett is expected to play his first game for the Los Angeles Rams since the season opener when they visit the Washington Commanders on Sunday, head coach Sean McVay said Friday.

McVay said the outside linebacker will be activated from injured reserve and should play barring a setback. Garrett had knee surgery after the Week 1 game against San Francisco in Australia and has missed seven games since.

The Rams opened his 21-day practice window on Monday. Garrett practiced Wednesday and Thursday and was held out Friday, which McVay described as a precaution after a strong week rather than a new problem. How much he plays Sunday is still being worked out.

Garrett told reporters Friday the knee trouble built gradually rather than from a single play, and that sitting out was hard because he wanted to be part of the team’s success.

Los Angeles acquired Garrett from Cleveland in a June 1 trade. He is a seven-time Pro Bowl pick and a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and remains a team captain.

Kickoff at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, is set for 1 p.m. Eastern. Cornerback Trent McDuffie, tight end Colby Parkinson and safety Kam Curl are listed as questionable, and tight end Terrance Ferguson has been ruled out.
